Session on Faculty Development

Christ Church College, Lucknow, India is a premier educational institute of the city.

Neena Dayal had been invited there to conduct Faculty Development Programs (FDPs) for their senior-level faculty members. The strength of the attendees has been close to 100 participants, each having a teaching experience of upwards of 7 years.

The faculty members of educational institutions, who spend a lifetime in the fields of education develop some very strong mindsets. This ultimately leads them to form strong opinions about the changing scenarios in educational environments. They may be receptive to the new technologies and at the same time, may not be able to adapt very well to them. On the other hand, they may also be extremely adjustable and may think of developing new methodologies for teaching their students, yet find implementing them difficult.

Technology may just be one challenging aspect that is constantly changing. The other aspects are related to the changing mindsets of the children as well as their parents. These aspects are mainly related to discipline, respect, inclination towards education and grades and percentages in results.

In many schools where Neena has conducted Faculty Development Programs (FDPs), the main pain areas that emerge from the faculty members are related with the changing environments where teachers are expected to deliver results in the total absence of any kinds of disciplinary measures.

To attain these objectives people are constantly required to expand their own canvas, where they can connect well with the students at a humane level. In such environments, the students feel absolutely fearless and open up to learning with a voluntary mindset. Needless to say that this is extremely hard to achieve.

Still, this is the need of the hour and schools that indulge in regularly conducting Faculty Development Programs (FDPs), which enrich the faculty members by making them willingly accept the new challenges, and striving to remain productive.

Neena’s inputs of Mental Resilience are also very valuable in such programs as teaching requires a tremendous build-up of resilience.
